![]() BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (AFP) Nov 30, 2005 Former US president Bill Clinton was due in Indonesia's Aceh province later Wednesday where he will inspect tsunami reconstruction efforts, a UN official said. Clinton, the United Nations special envoy for tsunami recovery, is making a whirlwind day trip to Aceh, where more than 165,000 people were killed or remain missing after last year's devastating tsunami. He was due to brief the press at 12:30 pm (0530 GMT). Nearly half a million people in Aceh also lost their homes in the catastrophe, and recovery efforts have been criticised for taking too long. Clinton is to report back to the European Commission to discuss ongoing needs in the recovery effort and coordination between the European Commission and other key players. On Tuesday, the former president visited Sri Lanka, meeting with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse and travelling to the embattled northeastern port district of Trincomalee to meet with tsunami-hit communities. More than 31,000 people were killed and a million displaced by the giant waves in Sri Lanka. All rights reserved. 2005 Agence France-Presse.
