Quake rattles Lake Tanganyika region of Kenya

A strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Lake Tanganyika region of Kenya early Monday, according to the US Geological Survey, which monitors seismic activity around the globe.

The temblor struck around 55 kilometers (35 miles) southeast of Kalemie, Democratic Republic of the Congo (population 101,000) at about 1219 GMT, the Colorado-based USGS reported.
