A spokesman for the Moravian and Silesian fire service said the chemical was apparently a type of hydrocarbon solvent which leaked out of a container at the factory in the border town of Tesin, Poland. The fire service was unable to say what environmental damage was caused.

The Oder forms a border between the Czech Republic and Poland before proceeding through western Poland, along the German border and into the Baltic.
