![]() PRAGUE (AFP) Dec 05, 2005 Czech firemen said they constructed a barrier on the bed of the Oder river on Monday to prevent a poisonous chemical, leaked from a Polish paint factory, from proceeding further downstream. A spokesman for the Moravian and Silesian fire service said the chemical was apparently a type of hydrocarbon solvent which leaked out of a container at the factory in the border town of Tesin, Poland. The fire service was unable to say what environmental damage was caused. The Oder forms a border between the Czech Republic and Poland before proceeding through western Poland, along the German border and into the Baltic. All rights reserved. 2005 Agence France-Presse.
