![]() JAKARTA (AFP) Dec 24, 2005 East Timorese President Xanana Gusmao will attend Christmas Eve mass in the Indonesian capital Saturday, a government official said here as security forces braced for possible extremist attacks. "President Xanana Gusmao will attend the evening mass at the cathedral" in Jakarta, head of the Indonesian president's media office Garibaldi Sujatmiko told AFP. Gusmao will also join Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's entourage for their visit to the tsunami-ravaged province of Aceh on Monday for memorials marking the one-year anniversary of the disaster, he added. Church official Yohanes Jukti confirmed the cathedral was told of Gusmao's visit and said special seating was being arranged for his party of six. Gusmao's stop in Jakarta comes as security forces in the world's most populous Muslim nation fan out across the archipelago amid escalated threats of Islamic extremist attacks. The East Timorese president has been under fire in recent weeks for recommending that a probe into past human rights violations in the world's youngest country, mainly by Indonesian forces, be kept under wraps. Gusmao has said it would be better to keep a major report by the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation out of the public domain in order to help reconciliation with its powerful neighbour. The commission was set up as an independent authority in 2002 tasked with investigating rights violations from all sides during Indonesia's more than two-decade occupation of its smaller neighbour.
