Snow cuts Amsterdam airport traffic in half
THE HAGUE (AFP) Dec 30, 2005
Heavy snow cut air traffic at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport in half on Friday as bad weather played havoc with transport across Europe, officials said.

"In terms of departures as well as arrivals, the airport is only functioning at half its capacity," airport spokeswoman Miriam Snoerwang said.

The airport, like much of The Netherlands, was under a blanket of snow late Friday with forecasters warning it could turn to ice overnight before thawing on Saturday.

Authorities earlier warned travellers to avoid using trains and roads but rail officials said there had been no delays on the rail network so far.
