A strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale was detected late Thursday in the Pacific Ocean 205 kilometersmiles) south of Panama, the US Geological Survey reported. The tremor did not generate a tsunami warning.The earthquake struck at 0339 GMT Friday at a depth of 10 kilometersmiles), the USG said on its website.
An AFP correspondent in Panama City said the quake was not felt there and local media did not report on it.
