1,000 evacuated in Malaysia after floods
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) Jan 09, 2006
More than 1,000 people have been evacuated from villages in Malaysia's southern Johor state after heavy rain caused flooding in five districts, police said Monday.

Police said 1,063 evacuees were being housed in 12 relief centres in the affected region.

Chief Inspector Hasani Hussin from the state's flood control operations room told AFP the rain was continuing, but that the situation was stable. Police said no one had been injured.

Heavy rain in December caused the evacuation of over 20,000 people across five states in northern Malaysia.
