Heatwave kills at least 12 in Bangladesh
DHAKA, June 2 (AFP) Jun 02, 2007
A heat wave over the last week has killed at least 12 people in Bangladesh, including a man playing soccer on Saturday, police said.

Jagat Gyan Chakma, 20, collapsed and died at a soccer field at Longadu, 350 kilometres (218 miles) south of the capital, Dhaka, while playing in front of hundreds of spectators, police officer Wahid Ahmed said.

Temperatures have reached 41 degrees Celsius (106 Fahrenheit) during the heatwave, which is likely to continue for two or three days until monsoon rains bring relief, weather office spokesman Shahjahan Alam told AFP.
