Brazil police find private security violations at COP30 Belém, Brazil, Nov 21 (AFP) Nov 21, 2025 Brazilian police said Friday that there had been several procedural violations by private security companies working at the COP30 climate conference in the city of Belem. The UN climate talks in the Amazon are set to conclude Friday after two weeks of negotiations marked by several incidents, such as a fire that delayed talks for several hours on Thursday, and two Indigenous protests. Federal police said in a statement that a series of inspections in recent weeks had found some private security companies were not filing paperwork properly, while "clandestine firms" were providing security without permission. "As a result, four infraction notices were issued, two illegal companies were shut down, and equipment such as metal detectors and radios used improperly was seized." Early in the summit, UN climate chief Simon Stiell had complained to Brazil about security, sweltering conditions, faulty air-conditioning, and water leaks near light fittings during torrential tropical downpours. |
