Carlsbad, Calif - July 31, 1998 - The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) has placed an order worth $3.6 million that includes the first production units of a new UHF DAMA SATCOM modem from ViaSat Inc. The order is for a combination of standard MD-1324/U satellite modems and the new "Turbo" modem. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed in the next six months.
The Turbo modem, an upgraded version of ViaSat's MD-1324/U modem, provides
higher data rates and incorporates a UHF receiver without an increase in size or weight. This combination results in greatly expanded satcom capabilities with a significant reduction in equipment costs, space, and weight.
The MD-1324/U modem is ViaSat's low-cost, lightweight UHF DAMA satellite
communications modem. The MD-1324/U is also the first fielded DAMA modem to be fully inter-operable with the Department of Defense (DoD) worldwide network control in all three standard UHF satellite communication modes;
MIL-STD-188-181 (non-DAMA), -182 (5-kHz DAMA) and -183 (25-kHz DAMA). The
modems operate in airborne, shipboard, or fixed installations.
ViaSat Inc. designs and produces advanced digital communication products,
including satellite networks and wireless signal processing equipment for
government and commercial markets. Other products include information
security devices, tactical communication radios, and communication simulation and test systems. Corporate headquarters are located in Carlsbad, California in northern San Diego County, with branch offices in Boston, MA, and Marietta, GA.
