TRANSAT, based in Sofia, was created in November 2002 to establish a highly reliable, nationwide communications infrastructure to satisfy the needs of state and private companies throughout Bulgaria.
The company chose NSS-7 based on its high-powered and comprehensive coverage of Bulgaria with excellent connectivity to the rest of Europe and the United States. The service began in September 2003 and the network, which will consist of more than 500 sites, is scheduled to be completed early next year.
It initially will provide high-speed digital voice, video and data communications among 450 petrol stations, 30 bank branches and 17 corporate office locations.
Mr. Mincho Pankov, executive director of TRANSAT, said: "We were established with the objective of setting up a high-quality, nationwide communications infrastructure quickly and efficiently.
Satellite proved to be the most cost-effective and reliable means of meeting this near-term objective while satisfying our longer-term goal of offering premium commercial communication services throughout Bulgaria and Eastern Europe. NSS-7, in particular, offered the best coverage in terms of power, frequency allocation and inter-regional connectivities."
