Alain Charmeau Appointed CEO of EADS Space Transportation

Alain Charmeau, 49, has been appointed as EADS Space Transportation's new CEO on 1 September 2005. He succeeds Herve Guillou who has taken on new responsibilities within the EADS group.

Alain Charmeau will run the company alongside Evert Dudok, President of EADS Space Transportation who is based in Bremen, Germany.

Frenchman Alain Charmeau has been with EADS and its predecessor companies since 1980. He has held a variety of senior positions within technical and programme management always in an international context, particularly Franco-German, including anti-tank and air defence programmes.

As head of the Defence "Business Line" for EADS Space Transportation for more than 2 years, he has been a key player on the French ballistic missile system programme.

Alain Charmeau is a graduate engineer of the Higher Education Institute "Arts et Metiers" and also holds a Master of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology.

Markus Payer will join SES Astra in Luxembourg as Vice President Media Relations. In his newly created position, he will report to Ferdinand Kayser, President and Chief Executive Officer of SES Astra, and Alexander Oudendijk, Senior Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer of SES Astra. He will take up his position on 15 September.
