U.S. Navy Awards Raytheon $138 Million AEGIS Weapon System Contract

Raytheon Company has been awarded a $138 million U.S. Navy contract for AEGIS Weapon System (AWS) radar equipment for three new Arleigh Burke class DDG-51 destroyers and one Japanese Kongo Class destroyer.

The contract includes transmitter equipment for the AN-SPY-1D (V) radar, an S-band multifunction phased array radar. Additionally, the contract will provide each ship with three illuminators and the associated antennas for the MK99 Fire Control Systems, which provide X-band continuous wave illumination for the STANDARD Missile and the Evolved SEASPARROW Missile systems. Associated spares and technical documentation are also included in the procurement.

Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems will build and deliver the equipment under an existing contract with the Naval Sea Systems Command. Work will be performed at Raytheon facilities in New England. The AWS is on all Arleigh Burke class DDG-51 destroyers in the U.S. fleet, now numbering 59, and on 27 Ticonderoga class CG-47 cruisers.
