Verso Technologies announced Tuesday that the Chinese government successfully utilized its NetPerformer SDM-9230 solution to transmit images of the Shenszhou 6 Spacecraft during China's recent manned space mission.

Verso partnered with distributor Dove Communications, a satellite communications and multi-media WAN systems integrator, to supply the government with voice and video capabilities during the mission.

Dove outfitted China's Shenzhou-6 Spacecraft with a portable satellite station, and upon re-entry of the craft at the main touchdown area, voice and video feeds were immediately transmitted back to Beijing mission control center by NetPerformer SDM-9230 via satellite. Images were then shown on state televisions and viewed by millions of people.

The NetPerformer SDM-9230 uses field-proven digital convergence technology to compress voice and data technology over efficient packet-based networks, effectively integrating disparate PBX systems.

"During the spacecraft re-entry phase, our solution reliably transmitted clear video and voice feeds," said Yves Desmet, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales.

"To be selected by the Chinese government for such a critical mission, involving the government's space program highlights the reliability of our product. Prior to the launch, the NetPerformer SDM-9230 was subjected to rigorous testing and scrutiny in order to insure transmission quality and reliability. With hundreds of millions of people watching, there is no room for error."

"With its compact size, light weight and simple operation, we found NetPerformer to be easily installed. Within our satellite system, a multiplexer was successfully used to connect video, voice and data," said Wang Xiaojie, president, Dove Communications.

"We have a long-established track record within China, and our key relationships with China-based distribution partners such as Dove will ensure Verso's continued and expanded success as we gain momentum on a variety of projects in China," Desmet added.
